Telekom Romania and the Red Cross help people affected by frost and heavy snowfall in Calarasi, Giurgiu and Ialomita counties

Bucharest, 25th of January, 2017: Following the heavy snowfall and the period with very low temperatures, some parts of the country, especially vulnerable people, remained without resources to overcome the following period. Telekom Romania and Red Cross will distribute basic food, sleeping bags and firewood for 100 families in Calarasi, Giurgiu and Ialomita counties.

200 tons of firewood, 1.2 tons of non-perishable food and 200 sleeping bags will arrive in the coming period to families with many children, single elderly persons or people with disabilities in the villages Ulm, Faurei and Zimbru in Calarasi county, in the villages Mulosesti , Nicolesti and Tovarasia in Ialomita county and several villages in Izvoarele Chiriacu, Giurgiu county. The beneficiaries were selected based on social investigations made by local municipalities. Thus, each beneficiary will receive at home 2 tons of firewood, 12 kg of food and 2 sleeping bags.

"We support the communities to share their experiences and we are pleased that many are positive, but, in a difficult situation, it is important to do more. Thus, we chose to join again our social partners and, with the help of Telekom’s volunteers team, to help the people who needed food and heat. Together we can prove that we care and we are there at the right time and place ", said Ruxandra Voda, Communication Director Telekom Romania.

"The firewood is crucial in this period of heavy frost and snow. Unfortunately, thousands of poor families in rural areas live in the cold because they cannot afford to buy wood. We would like to thank Telekom Romania, our partner in this humanitarian mission. We believe that with our help these people will overcome the winter", said Ioan Silviu Lefter, Director Red Cross.

In the action of packing and distributing goods in the three counties, along with Romanian Red Cross’ volunteers, Telekom Romania’s employees will participate as volunteers.
